Hooded Merganser Nodding

Male Hooded Merganser Displaying

This merganser is in full display. I was able to get this close since I was in a hunters blind. I was actually 15 feet away from this bird when it was displaying. The interesting thing about it was the noise it was making. A drumming sound almost a series of clicks. You can see its throat swollen.

Yellow Throat singing

These have to be one of my favourite birds, they kept appearing when I was doing a golden winged warbler study. I believe they inhabit the same kind of area. Black Alder mostly.

This bird looks like it has been on its perch too long. If it stays much longer the caterpillars will be making a nest.....lol

We know what this little fellow had for lunch

These birds count on the fact that you cant see them and do not flush easy when on the nest.

I was out looking for goldenwinged warblers and something caught my eye. This woodcock was nesting right beside a white pine very well concealed.
